Scholar

Leidy was born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Spain, though she has been living in New York for the past few years. She earned her B.S. in Biology with a minor in Psychology at the City College of New York, and it was through her undergraduate studies that she first learned about Genetic Counseling. She strongly believes in the value of education and informed decisions (especially in healthcare), as well as the importance of mental health. She has had the opportunity to continuously reinforce these values as a volunteer in different non-profit organizations, such as a crisis helpline. 

Leidy is eager to raise awareness of genetic counseling and genetic conditions to all populations, and as a WAF scholar, she's looking forward to learning how to better serve and support underrepresented communities. 

In her free time, she loves spending quality time with friends and family, hiking/outdoor adventures and traveling.
