Comprehensiveness, Inclusivity, and Accessibility of U.S. State Newborn Screening Public Health Websites

We are celebrating with Didar Yahia, Class of 2026 Warren Alpert Scholar in the Genetic Counseling Master’s Program at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. His undergraduate thesis research was just published in Illuminate, The Undergraduate Journal of the Northeast Regional Honors Council. His work, entitled “Comprehensiveness, Inclusivity, and Accessibility of U.S. State Newborn Screening Public Health Websites,” examines these facets of state newborn screening websites to identify best practices and areas in need of improvement.

Didar, a native of Paterson, NJ, reports that the thesis research was a highlight of his undergraduate years at William Paterson University, where he earned a B.S. in Biology in spring 2024. He is currently deciding whether to continue studying newborn screening practices or to tackle a new topic for his graduate thesis work.
